Kua Number Bed Direction: Where to Point Your Headboard

Use your Kua number to choose a bed direction that supports sleep, health, and relationships — and know when to break the rules.

Find my best directions

The headboard rule

In Eight Mansion feng shui the bed works through the headboard: the direction the top of your head points while sleeping should be one of your four favorable directions — ideally Tian Yi (Heavenly Doctor) for health or Yan Nian (Longevity) for relationships.

East group and West group

Kua numbers 1, 3, 4, and 9 form the East group, favoring North, South, East, and South-East. Kua 2, 6, 7, and 8 form the West group, favoring the four remaining directions. Couples from different groups usually prioritize the breadwinner's or the more health-sensitive partner's directions.

Room reality wins ties

Never put the headboard under a window, in line with the door, or against a bathroom wall just to satisfy a Kua direction. Form rules outrank direction rules: a stable wall behind the bed matters more than a perfect compass bearing.

FAQ

My best direction is impossible in my room. Now what?

Use your second or third favorable direction, keep a solid headboard wall, and address the rest through the room's layout. Any favorable direction beats an unfavorable one.

Does bed direction really affect sleep?

Feng shui frames it as directional energy alignment. Treat it as one input alongside light, noise, and comfort — reflection, not medicine.
